In the Bosch dishwasher error E09 appeared? We will help you deal with the problem. First of all, you need to understand that the code indicates a malfunction in the heater. How to fix this, read this article.
Error Code Value
The E 09 icon indicates problems with the heater (heater). Most likely, the part is burned out and needs to be replaced, but here it is not so simple. The flow heater in the dishwasher differs from the heater in the washing machine. It is attached to the recirculation pump to efficiently heat the water.
How it works? The pump pumps water and then passes it through the heater. The pressure of hot water helps wash dishes.
Since the heater is part of the circulation pump (or engine), you cannot buy it separately for replacement. It is important to consider the “Bosch” PMM model when purchasing parts, since the E09 error is characteristic of third-generation technology.
Damage to the heating element occurs in 90% of cases if the machine generates an E9 error. But the remaining 10% are:
- a problem with the wiring;
- temperature sensor breakdown;
- incorrect operation of the main module.
For what reasons does the heater break down?
If in the future you do not want to encounter a similar problem, remember the main reasons for its occurrence:
- Water leak. Over time, gaskets and seals in the equipment wear out, so leaks can occur. As a result, water enters the sump where the heater and engine are located. Often the glass loses its tightness at the junction with the body. However, it is worth checking not only this, but also all the other elements: pipes, hoses.
- Clogged filter. Periodically, the drain filter needs to be cleaned. This is the prevention of many problems and the prevention of other error codes. Due to clogging, water circulates slowly, which leads to overheating of the heater. Therefore, the system can show code E09. How to fix the situation? Open the hopper door and find the filter screen at the bottom, remove it and rinse under water pressure. No matter how you try to clean the dishes from food, small pieces still get into the Bosch dishwasher, leading to blockages.
- Scum. Poor hard water affects the performance of PMM. Limescale deposits on the heater, forming a thick layer. TEN heats water longer and then overheats and burns. Use salt to soften water and prevent scale formation.
Problems with wiring or a temperature sensor occur due to instability in the network. If you have not yet installed a voltage stabilizer when connecting a dishwasher, we recommend that you do this. Otherwise, the control module may burn out.
There is also a short circuit during contact with water.

How to troubleshoot
First you need to eliminate a system crash. If the fault code is displayed for the first time, you should know how to reset the program:
- pull the plug out of the socket;
- wait 10-15 minutes;
- connect the machine to the network.
Does the error no longer appear on the screen? Then the problem is solved. If it is highlighted again, it means that you will have to change the heater - for this you need to disassemble the PMM. Ready for self repair? Then here is the sequence of work:
- Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains, water, sewage.
- Remove the plastic clips that are located at the edges of the PMM housing.
- Unscrew and remove the front part of the equipment.
- Under the door is a metal bar. Unscrew her.
- Remove thermal insulation.
- Remove the screws around the perimeter of the pallet.
- Open the door of the hopper, empty it from the baskets.
- Remove the beam from the seat.
- Take out the filter and mesh from below.
- Remove the four screws that hold the circulation pump.
- Now place a rag and turn the machine over onto the back wall.
- Loosen the screws around the perimeter and remove the pallet.
- Disconnect the wires from the drain pump, unscrew the screws.
- Turn the pump clockwise and remove it.
- Remove everything that holds the circulation unit in place: wires, hoses, pipes.
- Remove a collar holding the TEN on the pump. Remove the heater.
- Install the new part in the reverse order.
If you are not sure about the malfunction of the heating element, measure the resistance of its contacts with a multimeter.
Now you know what the error code E09 means. We described what parts need to be checked and how to properly fix the breakdown. Proceed sequentially and do not forget to adhere to safety rules. Does home repair seem too complicated? Then call for the help of specialists.
